Nélson Évora é o melhor saltador do mundo e confirmou-o este fim-de-semana nos Campeonatos de Portugal em Pista Coberta onde alcançou a melhor marca mundial do ano no triplo salto -17,32m. O atleta português já detinha a melhor marca mundial no salto em comprimento. Nélson tem 23 anos, é de origem cabo-verdiana e nasceu na Costa do Marfim. No ano passado sagrou-se campeão do mundo de triplo salto em Osaka, no Japão, e prepara-se para estar em forma nos Jogos Olímpicos de Pequim que se realizam no próximo Verão. Nélson Évora destaca-se também pela forte consciência social que demonstra: leiloou os ténis de competição para fins humanitários e entregou um contentor de material escolar em Cabo Verde, entre outras iniciativas. Afinal, nem tudo é mau em Portugal. E uma notícia destas deveria ter bastante mais destaque que as tricas futebolísticas ou o sobe-e-desce dos grandes de Lisboa na classificação de uma Liga que, infelizmente, já está mais do que decidida.
Nélson Évora is the best jumper in the world and has confirmed it last weekend during the Portuguese Indoor Championships when he has reached the best perfomance of the year in triple jump - 17,32m . The portuguese athlete had already the world lead in long jump. Nélson is 23 years old, has his origins in Cape Vert and was born in Ivory Coast. Last year he became triple jump world champion at Osaka, Japan, and he is on his way to be in shape for the Beijing's Olympic Games that will take place next Summer. Nélson Évora has also a very strong social conscience: he gave his competition tennis shoes for an humanitarian auction and has delivered one container loaded with school material in Cape Vert, among other iniciatives. After all, there are some good things in Portugal. And a story like this sould be highlighted instead of paying attention to the small stories about football and competition in a Portuguese League that is, unfortunately, already decided.
